Water Conservation Rebate - Hot Water Recirculation Pump Rev. 11/2/2022 HOT WATER RECIRCULATION PUMP WATER CONSERVATION PROGRAM Your Water Conservation Representative: Madeline Kacsinta - mkacsinta@pismobeach.org This program is subject to change without notice and is subject to the availability of funding. Program Goal: The intent of the Hot Water Recirculation Pump Rebate Program is to encourage customers to save water by reducing the amount of water lost down the drain while waiting for hot water– to save water. Background: A hot water recirculation system works using a pump that starts recirculating cooled water that's been sitting in the hot water line and sends it back to the water heater through the cold-water line. When the water reaches a desired temperature, a control turns off the pump. This process is similar to turning on the hot water faucet and letting the water run until it gets hot, but instead of the water going down the drain, it is simply returned back to the water heater—saving water and possibly saving energy depending on how long water is left on. It is estimated that the average household could save up to 12,000 gallons of water per year by installing a hot water recirculation pump.
